Exam 3 Results and Information
Published Date:April 19, 2011
Tests will be given back in class Wednesday 4/20. You must go to your section to obtain your test. An estimation of your current letter grade for the class is written on your test (a total grade was computed using all hourly exams, scaled to 42% of the grade, the homework you have done so far compared to what should have been completed --we took into account excused homework for late registration-- for 8%, and the remaining parts using the past two and half year class averages for Lab, RA, Attendance--respectively 94.66, 89.58, 91.24). This is an estimation of your grade so far and gives a good evaluation as to where you currently stand in the class. The letter grade cutoffs can be found in the syllabus. A spreadsheet to check your standing is available in Lon Capa as well, as well a worksheet with final exam grade replacement examples. The Exam 3 average is 77.77; standard deviation 16.4
Regrade Policy: You will be able to request a regrade (total wrong, points missing or else) in lecture, either Friday 4/22 or Monday 4/25 (deadline)--no regrade request after the deadline is possible. To request reconsideration of grading of Exam 3 problems, please attach a sheet with your reasoning to your exam booklet, and submit it to your instructor. Please write neatly so we can easily read your request. "please regrade" is NOT a legitimate request; you must explain. We thrive to keep consistency among all students: the same amount of points was deducted for the same mistakes, and therefore such mistakes will not be regraded. Please refrain from submitting pages of requests, just because you feel "obliged" to ask for points. Be aware that sometimes a request for regrade could result in points deducted, for fairness, to keep consistency with class.
We plan to post solutions for Exam 3 later. In the meantime we encourage everyone to go to office hours (posted on website), and ask questions.

RA Project Next Steps
Published Date:April 13, 2011
Today at 5pm, you may start reviewing your four papers, and evaluate your team in RAMSES. Remember that you must "submit", and submissions are final. You will earn 5% for each paper reviewed, and 10% for the team evaluation. The criteria lists are conveniently available in RAMSES for help on the page you enter your numbers. Enjoy reading your papers! Your portfolio is due Wednesday 04/20 at the beginning of lecture. Make sure to re-check the list of items to include in the portfolio, and to double check the grading scheme in RA Handout 2, to get full credit (both lists are available on the RA website).

Published Date:April 10, 2011
The second exam is Monday April 18, 7-8:15 pm. Rooms are as follows (rooms are very tight; you MUST go to your assigned room):
Last Names A-K: Wohlers Hall 141
Last Names L-P: Rodger Adams Lab 116
Last Names Q-Z: David Kinley Hall 114
The topics covered are from Lectures 23 to 33 (see schedule), homework 12 to 16. There are practice exams (actual past exams) on the ECE 110 website (under "Exams"). HKN (243 EL) will sell past exams packages.
You are allowed to bring a calculator and one 8 1/2x11 sheet of personal notes (both sides ok, any format, hand-written, typed...) to the exam. Additional handouts will be provided (see "Past Exams" link on ECE 110 website).
You will be asked to SHOW YOUR WORK (i.e. all steps you are taking to provide your answer). Answers without work will be graded zero. Check website with past exams solutions to see what it means (examples). This will allow us to give you partial credit if applicable, and allow you to recheck your work before giving your test back.
The problems on the exam will be more or less ordered by difficulty (from easy to more difficult). This was a request from past ECE 110 students. We strongly recommend you look at all problems first, and start with the one problem you find easiest.
If you have a conflict, we will accommodate you (we can give a make-up at 9pm, after the regular exam); You must inform your instructor asap - we need to reserve a room. Notify instructor by Wed. April 13 at 5 pm. If you are registered in DRES and need accommodation, let us know asap.
Monday April 18 lecture will be replaced by a (non-mandatory) Q&A session.
