More than 700 people attended the Asian American Association's 23rd annual fashion show on March 7, 2009 at Foellinger Auditorium. The show featured 7 scenes and several cultural performances, including Wushu Club, Floor Lovers Illini, Illini Glowsticking Club, and the Korean Traditional Drum Club .

On September, 3, at 07:30 pm, members of the Turkish Students Association hosted the Turkish Coffee Hour at the Cosmopolitan Club, the oldest international organization on the University of Illinois campus. Over 200 attendees tasted the Turkish Cuisine and learned more about Turkey.

Civil and Environmental Engineering hosted the Asia-Pacific Summer School on Smart Structures July 3-25. Students from 30 Asian-Pacific universities came to Illinois for intensive instruction in the emerging field of smart structures technology (i.e., developing structures that are capable of self-sensing and monitoring; self-diagnosis and prognosis with intelligence; self-healing and repair; etc.) Of course, there was time for a lot of fun as well. Here, APSS participants enjoy a trip to the Douglas County fair.

United States Marine Corps 2nd Lt Eric Hovey graduated this past May. "While at school I was a member of the NROTC program from 2005-2009, and this picture was taken as part of my commissioning ceremony into the United States Marine Corps on May 18, in front of the Alma Mater. Since graduating I have been stationed in Quantico, Virginia where I am enrolled in The Basic School (TBS) for six months of training."

Illini Medical Screening Society members Kunal Patel (left) and Anirudh Reddy (right) use the fingerstick procedure to test a client. IMSS is a unique registered student organization at Illinois that provides all uninsured and low-income individuals free medical screening for diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. All screenings are established and operated by undergraduate pre-health students, funded by Provena Covenant Medical Center, and supervised by licensed healthcare professionals.

A Wildlife Medical Clinic team performs a nuclear medicine scintigraphy scan to assess blood flow to the severely injured leg of a whooping crane April 8. The scan was successful and surgery will be performed to repair multiple fractures (more than 10) to the leg. There were only 470 whooping cranes living wild and in captivity in the world in 2005-2006, according to the International Crane Foundation.
