Students in the Global Studies 298 Winter Abroad course visited San Francisco Libre, Nicaragua, where they demonstrated and delivered solar ovens. Made of cardboard boxes and glass tops, solar ovens are an environmentally friendly alternative to wood burning stoves. Thanks for the pic, Jasmine Morgan.

Ed Zagorski is celebrating his 90th birthday with former students and friends who will come to campus this weekend (September 24, 2011) from across the United States to honor the "inspirational teacher who personifies joy in learning." Professor Zagorski taught Industrial Design in the School of Art + Design between 1951 and 1988. His statue is located inside the Link Gallery.

This was the end of a 70 day journey that began in New York's Central Park. Along the way, they raised more than $120,000 for the American Cancer Society and Camp Kesem.

These alumni of Tsinghua University formed a "100" on the Quad in celebration of the 100th anniversary of their Alma Mater. Tsinghua is one of China's most prestigious institution and is a longtime parter with Illinois. About 120 current Illinois grad students are alumni of Tsinghua.

We measured that we could get a whole 100W of electricity from it. I dont think a dam is in the green energy plan for campus - or at least it shouldnt be!"

This year's winner in the School of Chemical Sciences annual visualization contest is Tom Bassett who, with help from other members of Professor Paul Kenis's research group, used a scanning electron microscope to capture gold nanoparticles on an aluminum filter. The microscope is reflected in the center of the image.

Champaign and Urbana firefighters responded to a fire in businesses along the south side of Green Street, between Sixth and Wright Streets, this morning (Wednesday, March 23, 2011). Local news reports said smoke was billowing from the building at 625-629 E. Green, which is the site of Zorbas and Mia Zas restaurants and the Pitaya clothing boutique.
