More than 40 exhibits and demonstrations will illustrate the theme "Explore Your Instincts," including lots of interactions with animals and animal-related activities for young and old. Nourbaksh represented Illinois at the 2010 Midwestern Traffic Bowl Competition, sponsored by the Institute of Transportation Engineers. A ceremonial groundbreaking was held April 7 for the new M.T. Geoffrey Yeh Student Center addition to Newmark Civil Engineering Laboratory. The Yeh Center will provide state-of-the-art classrooms, meeting rooms, and informal gathering spaces for students in Civil and Environmental Engineering. It's expected to be completed next spring.

Civil & Environmental Engineering Assistant Professor Scott M. Olson spent January 30 through February 6 in Port au Prince, Haiti. He was one of nine engineers and scientists on a Geo-engineering Extreme Events Reconnaissance (GEER) team. In the photo, he is taking soil samples at the port to study how ground failures such as liquefaction and landslides contributed to human casualties and structural damage during the recent earthquake.
