Earn summer credit in a Psych lab (while playing with kids!)
Published Date:April 21, 2009
Looking to earn academic credit while gaining valuable undergraduate research experience this summer? Then the Language Acquisition Lab in Psychology could be for you!
The lab is open for the 8-week summer session which begins Monday June 15 and ends Thursday August 6. The lab is staffed in 3-hour shifts consisting of one supervisor (grad student, etc.) and two other research assistants (mostly undergraduate students taking Psych 290). All the training is on the job, and students learn how to present experimental materials to children between about 8 months and 3.5 years old, and do various tasks involved in recording and coding the data. The 3-hour shifts are 9-12, 12:30-3:30, and 3:30-6:30 weekdays except Friday afternoons. For summer, students receive two credit hours for 12hrs, or 4 sessions a week.
Students report that they love playing with the kids who do the studies. Students also learn a lot about the research process.
