Global Studies internships are exciting paid opportunities to facilitate a section of LAS 101, Global Awareness I. Global Studies Interns (GSIs) share their successful academic experiences with first-year undergraduate students and help them develop skills necessary to succeed at the U of I. GSIs also help students become aware of global issues and their impact on individuals, communities, and nations.

Finding a Major that Fits

Finding a Major that Fits workshop, offered by The Career Center, has provided help for many students who are exploring majors at the University of Illinois. This workshop is designed to assist freshmen and sophomore students select a major and can also be useful for students considering changing their major. Using a short interest assessment, participants identify their primary interests and connect these interests to possible majors. By the end of the workshop, students will have identified at least 2 potential majors to explore. Additionally, students will be introduced to web resources to help them explore these potential majors and discuss the relationship between majors and future careers.
This spring Finding a Major that Fits will be presented 6 times:
Wed, Feb 25 at 4 pm
Thurs, Mar 5 at 2 pm
Tues, Mar 10 at 1 pm
Wed, Apr 1 at 1 pm
Thurs, Apr 9 at 5 pm
Tues, Apr14 at 11 am
The workshop is one hour in length and held at The Career Center/Student Services Arcade Building’s Conference Room.

Orange and Blue Spirit Recognition Awards

The 'Orange and Blue Spirit Recognition' is an annual award given by the Illinois Student Senate and I-Serve, Student Service Council to students who represent leadership, excellence in character, and exceptional contribution to University of Illinois' Student Body. The award is one of the highest honors received by a student from the body of student representatives. The applicants are evaluated based on their contributions towards the student body as a whole and their work in improving the quality of student life.

Calling all Shutterbugs!
Submit your best photo for the International Education Week Photo Contest 2009.
Use your photography to illustrate the IEW theme: "Connecting You to a World of Opportunities!"
Submissions will be judged on quality and the way in which they illustrate how UI students are engaging internationally. Winning submissions will be recognized at the IEW keynote address on Friday, March 13, and will be on display throughout the month of March.
First place winner will receive a $100 gift certificate from Travel Cuts! Other winners will receive gift certificates from local merchants, such as Fiesta Cafe and Minneci's.

Transfer Writing Exam

The next Transfer Writing Exam (TWE) is scheduled for Friday, April 10, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in 106 Lincoln Hall.
All eligible prospective takers of the test should sign up beforehand by stopping by 294 English or by calling Lauri Harden at 333-1006.
Only transfer students who have credit for a course that articulates as UCI 1-- or UCII 1-- are eligible for the test. Courses articulated as RHET 1-- do NOT entitle students to take the test. Students can only take the transfer writing exam ONCE. Freshmen with single course UCI 1-- or UCII 1-- credit are not eligible for the exam.
