Sarah Jackman Launches an Independent Study with ILPS and LIS451

Sarah Jackman will be conducting an independent study on the effect on information literacy of introducing information new technologies in developing areas. It will build off a previous study on the meaning of information literacy in the developing world and will follow closely the efforts of the OLPC team and the LIS451 class as they distribute, maintain, and train São Toméans to use computers throughout the island.

For the third consecutive year, several Community Informatics Initiative (CII), Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) and East St. Louis Action Research Project (ESLARP) research projects will converge this summer when three GSLIS students and five One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) interns travel to São Tomé, West Africa with Professor Martin Wolske and CII Director of Community Networking Paul Adams to do work related to technology access and information literacy on the island nation.
