Self-healing electronics could work longer and reduce waste

A team of University of Illinois engineers has developed a self-healing system that restores electrical conductivity to a cracked circuit in less time than it takes to blink. Led by aerospace engineering professor Scott White and materials science and engineering professor Nancy Sottos, the researchers published their results in the journal Advanced Materials.

Two MatSE graduate students received awards at the 2011 MRS Fall Meeting. Hefei Dong, Ph.D. student in Jeffrey Moore's group, received a Best Poster Award for his poster "Multifunctional Microvascular Composites Fabricated from Coated Sacrificial Fibers (CSFs)." David Kolesky, Ph.D. student in Jennifer Lewis' group, received a Best Poster Award for his poster "Direct-Write Assembly of Micro-energetic Materials."
