Early Release Begins Tuesday

November 6, 2009 -- The State of Illinois plans to start its early release of inmates Tuesday.... part of an effort to save money in the prison system. The move comes about four months after the state first announced the plan. As many as one thousand prisoners could eventually be let go before their sentences are complete. Amanda Vinicky reports...

Happy Birthday Vachel

November 6, 2009 -- This weekend marks the 130th birthday of Springfield poet, author, and artist Vachel Lindsay. Lindsay traveled around the world often trading poems for food and a place to stay earning him the name "The Prairie Troubadour." WUIS's Jenna Dooley spoke with Jennie Battles, the site administrator at the Lindsay Home. She says Lindsay's work still rings true in modern times...

Laid to Rest

November 5, 2009 -- This week a Lanphier High School student will be laid to rest in an unmarked grave. Desiree Wisnaski will be buried next to her mother who died a year and half ago. The family lacks money for a monument, but an effort is underway to raise the funds. Donations can be made through Staab Funeral Home in Springfield. Sean Crawford reports...
