Dr. Sullivan, Professor Emerita, Department of English, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar Award for the 2013-14  academic year in Amman, Jordan where she will be teaching at the University of Jordan and conducting research on a project called Writers and the Battlefield of History. The project will reflect on how contemporary Arab writers think through problems of location, dislocation, and historical loss.

            <description>At their annual banquet in downtown Chicago on October 10, 2012, the Arab-American Bar Association of Illinois gave its 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award to Francis A. Boyle in recognition of his service to international law. He then gave a speech on Palestine's application for admission to the  United Nations Organization and its request for U.N. Observer State status. He serves as legal adviser to the Provisional Government for the State of Palestine on these matters.</description>

In addition to classroom instruction, SILMW will offer a variety of extracurricular activities designed to enhance classroom instruction, provide additional channels for language contact and practice, and expose learners to the traditions of the Muslim World communities.             <description>&lt;p style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Adil Khan&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;span style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 15px;"&gt;&lt;a href="mailto:adilkhan@illinois.edu"&gt;adilkhan@illinois.edu&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 13px;"&gt;Visiting Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies, Department of Religion.&amp;nbsp; Dr. Khan completed his PhD in 2009 at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.&amp;nbsp; He has also obtained an MA in Philosophy from the University of Houston and a BS in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin. Khan recently concluded a postdoctoral research project in which his research explored aspects of contemporary Islam in Europe. He is currently preparing a monograph which looks at the role of religion and politics on 19th century reform movements in South Asia&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 15px;"&gt;.&lt;/span&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="margin-top: 0;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 13px;"&gt;Dov Weiss, Assistant Professor, Department of Religion.&amp;nbsp; Dr. Weiss received his PhD in the History of Judaism from the University of Chicago Divinity School in June, 2011, specializing in rabbinic theology and rabbinic biblical interpretation. Weiss&amp;rsquo; dissertation, &amp;ldquo;Confrontations with God in Late Rabbinic Literature.&amp;rdquo; examines the history of rabbinic theology and biblical exegesis in the Byzantine period. Prior to attending the University of Chicago, he served as an Instructor of Talmud and Jewish Law at the YCT Rabbinical School in NY.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</description>
