Illini Medical Screening Society members Kunal Patel (left) and Anirudh Reddy (right) use the fingerstick procedure to test a client. IMSS is a unique registered student organization at Illinois that provides all uninsured and low-income individuals free medical screening for diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. All screenings are established and operated by undergraduate pre-health students, funded by Provena Covenant Medical Center, and supervised by licensed healthcare professionals.

Helping hands

Helping hands

A Wildlife Medical Clinic team performs a nuclear medicine scintigraphy scan to assess blood flow to the severely injured leg of a whooping crane April 8. The scan was successful and surgery will be performed to repair multiple fractures (more than 10) to the leg. There were only 470 whooping cranes living wild and in captivity in the world in 2005-2006, according to the International Crane Foundation.

POW-MIA Vigil

POW-MIA Vigil

The 24-hour POW/MIA Vigil at the University of Illinois is hosted by cadets and midshipmen from the Air Force, Army, and Navy ROTC departments. The vigil honors and remembers the sacrifices made by those who have served their country selflessly. We particularly want to commemorate those who have been held prisoners of war or are missing in action. Though they are not with us, they are never forgotten. Activities at this year's vigil (November 14-15) included writing letters to the troops, writing names of POW/MIA on the Memorial Wall, and selling yellow ribbons.
