Illini Union

Anchoring the north end of the quad, the Illini Union is the heart of campus. The cupola atop the Union houses the clock and bell from University Hall, which was located on the site of the current Union and housed classrooms, offices, a chapel, an art gallery, and the Natural History Museum until 1938 when the building was demolished.

The Illini Union includes a 90 room guest hotel, bank, art gallery, food court, bowling alley, arcade room, pool hall, computer lab, the Tenant's Union, a branch of McKinley Health Center, Ticket Central, office space for nearly 1,000 registered student organizations, and numerous study lounges. It is a place where students meet and relax, and it is remembered fondly by alumni.
