  • Pillar Performance No. 3 | Gamelan, Carol Concert, Jazz Band 3

Sunday, December 10, will be a music-filled day for the School, with popular annual performances by the Balinese Gamelan, university choruses, and a concert jazz band.

In recognition of these events, the School has designated these as Pillar Performances and will celebrate with a reception, as follows:

1:30 p.m. Balinese Gamelan, Music Building Auditorium
3 p.m.:  The Carol Concert, Foellinger Great Hall, KCPA
3 p.m.:  Jazz Band 3, Studio Theater, KCPA
4:30 p.m.: Reception near Stage 5, KCPA, featuring the Graduate Brass Quintet

All told, the concerts will feature 10 ensembles with some 300 student performers and several faculty members as conductors, performers, and readers of poems!   In addition, the final performance of The Nutcracker takes place in Tryon Festival Theatre, KCPA, at 2 p.m.

The idea of Pillar Performances is to bring the School of Music students, faculty, and staff together with campus and community members who attend, and perform in, our concerts.

Please join us in celebrating these fine ensembles and popular annual events.

  • KCPA to Collect Winter Clothing for Local Schools

This year KCPA will again be collecting gently used and new coats, mittens, hats and scarves for the Champaign Unit 4 And Urbana 116 School District. There is a special need this year for large and extra-large coats for boys in middle school. This being said though any donation will be appreciated.

Starting on November 27th- December 15th we will be collecting these items in bins by the Colwell Playhouse. After this date, we will be delivering the items to the school districts for the upcoming winter season. Each of these donations are then filtered into the school community and given to any child in need, any child who may have forgotten their coat etc. at home or perhaps have lost what they were given. This is especially important to students who wait and ride the bus and go out to recess during the day.

We hope that each of you have a wonderful Holiday Season.

Thank you in advance for your donation
