Illinois has always been a hub of the global midwest. International students, who number 15% of all enrolled students, are attracted to our world-class academic programs and to the culture of invention and innovation for which we are known. This makes Illinois one of the top destinations for international students in the nation. Moreover, International Programs and Studies (IPS) fosters linkages between Illinois and a variety of global institutions and businesses, building faculty and student connections through scholarly exchange and strategic partnerships. On campus, Global Crossroads is a living-learning community that cultivates students’ interests in world cultures and international work and service. And with 600 faculty affiliates, our eight area studies centers are focal points for interdisciplinary opportunity and community outreach. Over 11,000 Illinois students study abroad annually. Taken together, these global connections make our campus a pathway to the world and doorway for the world, to the benefit of the entire state.
