  • Meet the 2012 United Greek Council President, Santos Gordils

1-      Tell us a little bit about yourself

Hello! My name is Santos Gordils and I am a member of Alpha Psi Lambda-National, Inc.  This year, I will be serving as the United Greek Council President.  I am a Junior in Community Health.  Outside of Greek Life, I work in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and am an intern at La Casa Cultural Latina.  I am looking towards pursing a graduate degree in Higher Education Administration.

2-      Why you are looking forward to leading your council in 2012?

I am looking forward to leading the United Greek Council this year to be a part of all the exciting things that our chapters do, from philanthropy and service events to educational and cultural programs.

3-      What is your vision for your council and/or the greek community in general?

I envision a United Greek Council that upholds the values of service, academic excellence and integrity while focusing on and giving back to the minority communities from which we come.  Additionally, I hope to help brand the United Greek Council more effectively this year.

4-      Can you provide a preview for spring semester programs your council is working on?

This semester, the United Greek Council has planned a 'Meet the Greeks' event, an event designed to introduce the campus community to the chapters within the council.  We also have a Founder's Week planned to celebrate the United Greek Councils’ 9th year on the University of Illinois campus.  We have social, educational, and service events planned as well!  Finally, we will be wrapping up the semester with a late night dance at the Illini Union for the campus community.

5-      How you believe your council contributes to the overall campus community?

The United Greek Council contributes significantly to the overall campus community.  Many of our chapters serve and give back to the Champaign-Urbana community through various service and philanthropy endeavors.  UGC chapters also advocate for the minority communities from which we come.  Finally,  UGC provides a supplementary cultural and educational experience for its members and the outside community.
