    The Stream Ecology lab at the Illinois Natural History Survey is seeking up to 7 research technicians to conduct bioassessments of aquatic life in streams and rivers in Illinois.The position will be stationed in Champaign Illinois, but travel will occur throughout the state.

  • Archaeological Field Technicians – Northern Illinois Field Station - Illinois State Archaeological Survey

    The Illinois State Archaeological Survey is seeking to hire Archaeological Field Technicians (Academic Hourly Assistants) to serve as excavators and surveyors capable of performing basic archaeological identification, interpretation, and recordation tasks under the direct supervision of a Research Archaeologist. Duties include, but are not limited to, participation in Phase I field surveys, Phase II site testing, Phase III archaeological mitigation projects, and associated analysis activities based at the ISAS Northern Illinois Field Station in Elgin, Illinois. These are full-time (40 hours per week), non-benefits eligible, field/laboratory positions with an hourly rate of $16 to $18 depending on qualifications.

  • Medical Entomology Field Technician (Hourly): Illinois Natural History Survey

    The Illinois Natural History Survey’s Medial Entomology Lab is seeking undergraduate students or hourly technicians for seasonal field and lab work on mosquito and tick surveillance and research. The position is based at the Illinois Natural History Survey Medical Entomology Lab, within the University Research Park. 

  • Aquatic Ecology Technician (Hourly): Illinois River Biological Station - INHS - Application Deadline: April 7, 2024

    The Illinois River Biological Station is seeking up to two field technicians to conduct applied research in aquatic ecology and large river systems throughout the state of Illinois. Technicians will assist large river ecologists in the collection and analysis of water and zooplankton samples.  This position will be 40 hours per week and will be located in Havana, Illinois.


  • Fisheries Research Technician (Hourly) - Illinois Natural History Survey - Application Deadline: April 5, 2024

    The Sport Fish Ecology Lab at the Illinois Natural History Survey is seeking 1 qualified Fisheries Research Technician to assist graduate student Justin Lombardo in a research project studying the effects of angling on spawning largemouth and smallmouth bass in southern Ontario, Canada. Transportation and Housing are provided. Application Deadline is April 5, 2024. 

  • Seasonal Fisheries Technician (Hourly): Kaskaskia Biological Station - Sullivan, Illinois

    The Illinois Natural History Survey is seeking seasonal technicians to conduct in-person angler interviews at fishing lakes within the central Illinois region as part of a research project to investigate the effects of harvest regulations on angler catch rates and satisfaction. Positions will run from May - October, with flexibility for a later start date and earlier end dates to accommodate school schedules.

  • Aquatic Ecology Field Technician (Hourly) - Illinois Natural History Survey - Macomb, IL

    The Illinois Natural History Survey is seeking field technicians (1-3) to conduct applied research in aquatic ecology and large river systems throughout the state of Illinois, focusing on the Mississippi River. Technicians will assist large river ecologists in the collection of standardized long-term river monitoring data with additional targeted data collection and lab sample processing. This position will be 40 hours per week and will be based in Macomb, Illinois.
