Both Illinois students and non-students are welcome to participate. We especially encourage engineering students.
Not necessarily, but volunteers must 1) sound like native speakers and 2) have a strong knowledge of American culture.
If you have lived in the US (or other English-speaking country) for less than 5 years, you are probably still developing this linguistic and cultural fluency, and this is not a good volunteer choice for you.
Convopartners must meet for 1 hour each week. You and your partner(s) will choose a day/time that is convenient for each of you. If you can dedicate just one hour a week to helping an international student on campus, please continue to the questions!
This ConvoPartner opportunity begins in the first week of August and continues until the beginning of September. If you are available during this time period, please continue!
(If you don't have a NetID, type 'none')
Depending on our pool of ConvoPartner volunteers, you may be matched with 1-3 international CEE students who are beginning at the university this fall.
As a convopartner, you must attend a required Orientation meeting on campus. The CEE meeting will be on Tuesday, August 1st from 5-6 PM. MAKE A NOTE IN YOUR CALENDAR NOW! You will meet your partners at this meeting, so you don't want to miss it!
At this meeting you will also learn more about your responsibilities as a volunteer with the convopartner program. Before the course for CEE students begins, you will receive an email reminding you of this obligation, and, of course, the exact location of the meeting. If you cannot attend due to your work or class schedule, other arrangements can be made. However, please do your best to be available for this important meeting!
You can get a copy of your application by email as confirmation that your application was received. You'll get some emails from me (Kristin Bouton, CEE Program Coordinator) when the CEE course begins. -Thanks for signing up!
