The University of Illinois Police Department strives for transparency, and we want to help you get the information you need.

As a state institution, the University of Illinois is subject to the Illinois FOIA. A log of all FOIA requests is maintained by the Office for University Relations, which manages the FOIA process for the U of I System. Requests filed under the Freedom of Information Act, response letters, and responsive documents are themselves public records and subject to FOIA requests.

The Illinois Attorney General office website provides details about the act. The site includes an FAQ (frequently asked questions)  document written by staff in the AG's office for individuals employed by "public bodies" such as the University of Illinois.

Inspection of records shall occur in the Office of University Relations (108 Henry Administration Building, 506 S. Wright St., Urbana, IL or 414 Administrative Office Building, 1737 W. Polk St., Chicago).

The public records officer will respond within five (5) working days from receipt of this request by providing access, denying the request or issuing an extension of an additional five (5) working days.

Under provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, some university records may be exempt from inspection or copying.

Upon submission, this form will be forwarded to the University of Illinois FOIA office. Submitting this form is all you need to do, but you may also request records by sending a request directly to foia@uillinois.edu or by mailing a request to Thomas P. Hardy, 108 Henry Administration Building, 506 S. Wright St., MC-370, Urbana, IL 61801. Requests may be faxed to 217-333-5733.
