Who Should Attend?

Female middle and high school students who are interested in computing, programming, or problem solving, and who want to see how computer science applies to medicine, business, entertainment, fashion, and the arts.

  • Middle school includes girls going into grades 6, 7, or 8.
  • High school includes girls going into grades 9, 10, 11, or 12.

Camp Details

  • Gems is a day camp that runs from 9 am to 4 pm. Parents/guardians are responsible for getting their campers to and from campus each day, and for packing a lunch.
  • The high school camp is two weeks long, allowing participants to dig deeper into their projects.
  • There are four middle school camps, each one week long, with two themes to choose between each week.
  • Gems is free, thanks to the generous support of CS @ ILLINOIS alumni.

Middle school participants may request placement into any of the four camps, but space is limited. You should prioritize which camp your child would like to attend based on their preference. Some themes may sound similar to past years, but we are always working on new ideas and projects to do each year.
