Great Opportunities Provided by the University Police

The campus police department offers safety classes and programs for students to learn strategies for personal crime prevention! In 2012, the department became the first university police agency to receive accreditation through the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program. It offers all the traditional police services, but unlike traditional police departments, those services are uniquely tailored to meet the needs of our university in a community-based manner meant to improve and maintain a healthy climate and quality of campus life.

Moms Association Looking for New Members

The Moms Association is a great way to be involved with the university and learn more about the exciting events, scholarships, and opportunities available to you and your student. While everyone is automatically a member of the association, the Board of Directors is looking for interested moms and mother figures to join the leadership team.

Board members participate in several meetings on campus (in person or by teleconference), are engaged in numerous activities during Moms Weekend, form a closer connection to the university, make new friends with other Illinois moms, and have a great excuse to visit campus a few times a year to see their student! Those with creative, organizational, and/or business skills and experience are encouraged to apply.

If interested, please complete the online application on the Moms Association website here.

You can also support the Illini Moms Association by getting Illini Moms Merchandise from the official Moms Association Online Store. All proceeds will go towards supporting our students and the campus community.

Illinois Entomology Professor Leads Study in Social Behavior

A study led by UIUC Entomology professor Gene Robinson finds parallels between unresponsive honey bees and autism in humans. The findings, reported in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, appear to be unique to genes associated with autism and not to other behavioral disorders in humans. The study offers an early glimpse of the molecular heritage shared across the animal kingdom, the researchers say, and offers tantalizing clues about the evolution of social behavior.
