Training Coordinator/Senior Training Coordinator | National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois

The Training Coordinator or Senior Training Coordinator will coordinate, organize, and administer training programs in computational science and engineering for students and researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This includes training in high-performance computing (HPC) software use and design, application software basics and tutorials, and general use tools and concepts such as version control and scripting languages. Candidates at the senior-level will also be responsible for identifying the training needs in the College of Engineering and designing a training program to meet these demands.

High Performance Computing in Biology Graduate Hourly Position

The High Performance Computing in Biology (HPCBio) has an opening for a graduate hourly position (20 hrs/wk) with a focus on statistical analysis of genomic data, starting August 2017 through the fall semester, with the possibility of extending into the spring.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the statistical analysis of genome-wide gene expression datasets
  • Assists in the statistical analysis of other large-scale genomics data
  • Submission of regular written reports on projects
  • Develops scripts and programs for processing and statistical analysis of genomic data
  • Assist in training or workshops

Requirements:

  • BS degree in Statistics, Biology, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering or related field.
  • Solid knowledge of statistics
  • Fluent use of R for statistical analysis

Preferred Qualifications: 


  • Some familiarity with bioinformatics analysis, in particular RNA-Seq or technologies relevant to gene expression analysis, using Bioconductor packages in R
  • Knowledge of Linux command line, with experience in HPC environments
  • Familiarity with Python or Perl

People to Know: CSE Director

Professor Luke Olson  is the new Director for Computational Science & Engineering (CSE). Luke is professor and associate head in the Department of Computer Science (CS) and a Willett Faculty Scholar in the College of Engineering.  Also a member of the CSE steering committee since 2013, he has been selected as the co-chair of the 2019 Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Conference on Computational Science and Engineering. Luke will assume the leadership of the activities of the Parallel Computing Institute (PCI), which, moving forward, will operate under the auspices of CSE.

 
People to Know: CSE Education Coordinator

Bryan Wang is the new CSE Education Coordinator.

Bryan received his M.S. degree in Engineering as well as Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Human Resource Development.  He has 12 years of experience in the field of education and training as a training coordinator, instructor, and instructional designer for various training programs, courses, workshops at The Ohio State University, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center.
