From Allies to Comrades

Abstract
How should those on the same side of a political struggle relate to each other? This talk looks at the figure of the comrade in various languages and movements to find a model for political relation today. Anyone, but not everyone can be a comrade.
Jodi Dean is the Donald R. Harter '39 Chair of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY. She is the author and editor of twelve books, including Democracy and Other Neoliberal Fantasies (2009), Blog Theory (2010), The Communist Horizon, and Crowds and Party(2016).
From Allies to Comrades is organized by the Collaborative for the Critical Study of Technology at the Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory. The event is co-sponsored by Anthropology, Center for Global Studies, English, Media and Cinema Studies, and Women and Gender in Global Perspectives. |

WGGP offers a graduate minor in Gender Relations in International Development (GRID). The GRID interdisciplinary minor is designed to give students the analytical and empirical skills needed to address global human security and gender equity issues in research and policy analysis, as well as daily life. In this age of global economic transformation, it is especially necessary for researchers and practitioners to examine who gains and who loses from new policies, to assess the disparities in the impacts of reforms on women, men, and children, and to study the successful strategies and policies that appear.
