Freshman a Fan of History
In 2016 freshman Ellen Reckamp, who hails from Oregon, Illinois, spoke about education at the annual convention held by the National Rural Education Association. Ellen was an ideal choice to give a presentation at the event, given how passionate she is about education. The middle grades major, whose focus is in social studies and literacy, enjoys reading a variety of plays, poems, and novels in her Intro to American Literature course (ENGL 116), which she said explores interesting subjects from American history. After graduating and teaching at a middle school for a while, Ellen wants to pursue a master's degree and become a principal.

Be a Part of Martin Luther King Service Day 2018

Students will have various ways on Martin Luther King Service Day to make a positive difference in the community. Volunteer activities include making the day special for homeless children, assembling winter survival kits for campus neighbors who are exposed to the elements, and supporting the Epilepsy Center at Carle Hospital. Drop-In Advising Available at Career Center
The Career Center at Illinois offers students drop-in advising sessions throughout the semester. No appointment is necessary for the 15-minute consultations, and any topic related to careers is open to discussion. The Career Center is located at 715 S. Wright St. in Champaign.
Learn or Brush Up on Specific Language this January
Jan. 2-12, 2018
Students who will be in town in early January can sign up for language classes taught through the Intensive Foreign Language Instruction Program. The not-for-credit courses are taught by Illinois instructors in the mornings and afternoons and are open to everyone. There is minimal homework, varied levels of instruction, and no attendance policy. Learn more and register.
Study Abroad in Diverse Nation of Indonesia
July 9-31, 2018
This three-week study abroad trip will introduce participants to the education, culture, and history of Indonesia. Students will learn about the country's education system, discover the impact of culture in classrooms, and meet with local teachers and university professors. On four different islands—Java, Flores, Bali, and Sumba—participants will visit a variety of schools and attend teacher workshops. For fun outside of the classroom, students will watch performances, go on different excursions, live with a host family, and immerse themselves in the country's rich culture. Learn more...

Next Generation in Champaign Hiring Spanish Teacher
The preschool classroom at Next Generation School in Champaign is in need of an individual who is fluent in Spanish to teach children ages 2 through 5. The Office of Undergraduate Research is accepting submissions for the 2018 Undergraduate Research Symposium, which will take place April 19. The symposium is the signature event of Undergraduate Research Week (April 15-21) and offers an opportunity to show students, faculty, and staff from all disciplines the undergraduate research that's taking place on campus and its potential to affect the world.
