Ruby's Role-Model Moment
How did elementary education student Ruby Diaz know she wanted to someday be a teacher? In high school she was involved in a program called Safe Humane Chicago, which provided lessons for children on how to take care of dogs. One day a student came up to her and said, "I want to be like you when I grow up," which all at once made the College of Education freshman feel like a mentor. "That was the point where I said to myself, 'I want to become a teacher and a role model to kids,'" Ruby said.

Apply for College of Education Undergraduate Student Awards
Application Deadline: April 6
The College of Education Undergraduate Honors & Awards Committee invites students to review the available scholarships for the 2018-19 academic year. The selection process may be determined by the wishes of donors, which can include students' financial needs, educational interests, and other elements of support. Scholarship announcements will be made in late May, and award recipients will be honored at the College's annual Student Recognition Brunch. Learn more...
Fred S. Bailey Internship Scholarships for Cause-Driven Leaders

These Fred S. Bailey scholarships being offered for the Summer 2018 and Fall 2018 semesters are for undergraduate students who accept unpaid internships with public-service agencies and nonprofit organizations. "Latino Resistance in Higher Education: A Legacy of Struggle"

This two-day conference will focus on student development and overall professional development. Hosted by the Illinois Latino Council on Higher Education (ILACHE), the event will begin with a film presentation of Dolores. Campus Unit Seeking Peer Advisers for Summer
Application Deadline: April 6 at 5 p.m.
The Division of General Studies on campus is seeking undergraduate student leaders who are interested in being a positive influence on the DGS community and assisting with the unit's summer registration program. Among other duties, peer advisers will help incoming freshmen with the planning of their first semester of college and elaborate on skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and teamwork. The Students Pushing Innovation (SPIN) internship program at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications will host the SPIN Open House for undergraduates in any major who are seeking exciting internship opportunities. These 2018-19 internships are designed for highly motivated, creative students who want to work on hands-on research projects with guidance from NCSA staff and faculty affiliates. YWCA Women in Leadership Program Accepting Applications

The Women in Leadership program is an intensive, two-semester leadership and project-management internship that is structured as a group consulting effort. Interns will work directly with local human services agencies to learn about the nonprofit sector; identify organizational challenges; and research, propose, and implement solutions during the school year. Trips This Summer
Tomorrow and early May are the deadlines for students to join the College of Education abroad this summer! Earn course credit while experiencing education in a global context. Studying abroad allows students to learn from top schools and teachers worldwide, providing a new perspective on education. The deadline to sign up for the China and Greece trips is April 6. The deadline for the Indonesia trip is May 4. Financial aid and scholarships for studying abroad are available!

DAWN Project to Assist Students
With Data Analysis
The Data Analysis Workstation and Network (DAWN) project is a student-led initiative in the College of Education that provides students across campus with free access to ATLAS.ti, a powerful qualitative data analysis tool used for analyzing textual, graphical, and video data. Students can discover what the DAWN software is all about during early-April drop-in sessions in Room 10E, and those who are interested in using DAWN can apply for project time. Learn more...
