International Studies Research Lab 2018

Dates: July 8 - July 20
Application Deadline: April 15

The Center for Global Studies, International & Area Studies Library,
and Russian, East European & Eurasian Center at the University
of Illinois Urbana-Champaign are pleased to announce fellowships
and research honoraria to support the internationalization of community
colleges nationwide. We invite applications from faculty, librarians,
and administrators interested in expanding global studies curricula, 
instruction in less commonly taught languages, library collections, or 
international education programs at their home institutions. Participation
in ISRL provides resources and time for research otherwise unavailable
to applicants. Fellows will have the opportunity to work one-on-one
with international and area studies reference librarians and explore the
unlimited print and online resources at the University Library. 
Co-sponsored by the Center for African StudiesCenter for East Asian and Pacific StudiesCenter for Latin American and Caribbean Studiesand the European Union Center.

Lionel Ruffel is a literary scholar, publisher and professor of Comparative Literature and Creative Writing at Université Paris 8. His last book Brouhaha, Worlds of the Contemporary (U. of Minnesota Press, 2018) is a global investigation (covering literary theory, cultural studies, contemporary arts and literatures) of what the word “contemporary” means and the reasons for why the term imposed itself within the field of representations and practices.

The University of Illinois Classical Trombone Association (UICTA) will be hosting the Italian Trombone Quartet for a residency at UI’s School of Music. Comprised of trombonists from two orchestras in Turin (the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale Rai and the Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino) and one in Geneva (the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande), these leading European orchestral musicians formed the ITQ in 2012 and are embarking on their American tour.

Intensive Foreign Language Instruction Program
Register by May 1, 2018 

   The Intensive Foreign Language Instruction Program offers low-cost classes in French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Latin, Greek, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Hindi and ESL. Courses are taught by UIUC instructors. Open to everyone; not for credit, just for fun! Courses are held May 14 - June 1.
